Lummus Technology, a global provider of process technologies and value-driven energy solutions, announced on February 22, 2024, that it has been awarded a contract by Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd. to provide eight proprietary Short Residence Time (SRT®) ethylene cracking heaters for the Amiral petrochemical complex in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Amiral complex, located in Jubail Industrial City, is a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and TotalEnergies, and is expected to be the largest integrated refinery and petrochemical complex in the world when completed in 2025 The complex will produce 2.7 million tons per year of ethylene, 1.4 million tons per year of propylene, and 700,000 tons per year of benzene, as well as other petrochemical derivatives.
Lummus’ SRT® heaters are designed to achieve high thermal efficiency, low emissions, and long run lengths for ethylene production. Lummus has supplied more than 250 SRT® heaters worldwide, with a combined ethylene production capacity of over 200 million tons per year.

Lummus has a long-standing relationship with SATORP, the operator of the Amiral complex, and has licensed multiple technologies for the project, including its ethylene, refinery off-gas recovery and treating, pygas hydrotreating, methyl tertiary butyl ether, isobutylene, butene and butadiene extraction technologies
